Women's Team - Day 2(ish)

Today was the second day of surgery for the Women's Team. They had a few more general surgery cases and some good gynecological cases, too. Again, we were so lucky to have Dr. Brown with us. We had a 14-year-old patient with a LARGE abdominal mass that's pretty suspicious for badness (can you tell a doctor isn't writing this?)

Heidi and Matt and Christina (the second year medical student) did clinic in Chinique this morning. Christina got some good teaching moments from Heidi (who can't help herself) and even got to aspirate a pretty impressive ganglion cyst.

The team continues to be a complete joy to host. Carrie and Abby are still battling Guatemala Gut but the team is pressing on with awesome attitudes. They aren't setting any world records for the number of surgeries they're doing, but just about every surgery is a great case that is going to make a real difference in peoples' lives and each patient is receiving world class quality treatment - which is really what the goal is, anyway. We'd rather have awesome quality than insane numbers. Plus, the days are such that the team can really enjoy their time here, rather than going home more exhausted than they came.

Tomorrow they have some more surgeries to do and Heidi is going to work at the Hospital Buen Samaritano in Chichicastenango.

And here's what you really came for - the pictures...

Keep up the good work! Hope everyone gets to feeling better real soon - been there, done that, and had the bun off the floor to prove it. 30 days and counting.
