We are proudly hosting our first medical team. They are from Wichita Falls, Texas and they are absolutely first rate people! They are not only very talented medical people, but they are experienced missionaries, they are super nice folks, and they are supremely generous to the people of Guatemala. Thanks to them, our pharmacy will be tremendously well stocked following a heartbreaking two days in which we threw out some long expired medication.
The first picture here is Heidi in the process of performing a vaginal hysterectomy along with Dr. Flavia Horth. The second is Heidi proudly displaying the results of her work. Yes, that's actually a uterus. The pictures were taken by her proud husband who got to watch her operate for the first time. It was quite an emotional experience. No one clapped for her, like people do when Matt is working, but Matt doesn't save too many lives by playing loud music....
The third picture is of our beloved cat, Jake, taking a nap. We were not fortunate enough to have a good picture of him carrying a freshly killed rat into the house the first night the team was here, but that's what he did. Yes, there was lots of screaming. We are convinced that Jake waited until he had a large audience to display his hunting talents. We're pretty sure we know why, too....
Anyway, lots and lots of work has been going on and lots of people are being helped by the awesome folks from Wichita Falls. Please keep us and all of our patients in your prayers this week!

Wow! I'm (almost) speechless. I shared these photos with my coworkers during lunch and forgot that some people get grossed out by uteri (?) and such things. Thanks for sharing... It's cool to get some "action shots." LOVE!!
